The Hills Big Band will play one of their biggest gigs of the year when they hit the stage at The Ellington Jazz Club this weekend!
Under the direction of a new Musical Director, The Hills Big Band have scoured the planet for the hip and will swing onto the Ellington stage on Sunday 22nd September. Swing doesn’t entirely describe the Hills Big Band. Sure they do Basie and sometimes Miller. And yes they do have two great vocalists to do Sinatra and Holiday. The kicker is in the arrangements. Leaving no stone unturned, they bring you arrangements of numbers by the likes of Chick Corea, Charlie Mingus, Horace Silver, and Brian Setzer.
From their humble beginnings in the far flung reaches of the Perth Hills, this band has advanced pretty rapidly, last year filling the Midland Town Hall and featuring in the Northbridge Sunday Piazza Live series.
